Shortlisted Landscape architects have been announced for The Asia Pacific Landscape Architecture (LA) Awards 2017. The 10th IFLA Asia-Pac Landscape Architecture (LA) Awards and inaugural LA Luminary Awards Ceremony will be held on 4 November 2017 at the IFLA Asia Pacific Congress 2017 at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park.
The prestigious IFLA Asia-Pacific region Landscape Architecture Awards, now known as IFLA Asia-Pac LA Awards, aim to create continuous awareness and recognition of landscape architecture together with like-minded partners and other professions that have played a key role in shaping our cities and environment towards a better future.
The Federation received a total of 104 project entries from 50 landscape architecture firm from 10 countries namely Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand, in nine categories, including Analysis & Master Planning, Communities, Cultural and Urban Landscape, Infrastructure, Lighting and Night Experience, Nature Conservation, Parks and Open Space, Residential and Skyrise Greenery. Entries were put through a rigorous two-stage judging process, namely the online juror stage, involving 11 presidents from respective Asia Pacific national associations, followed by the final juror stage, consisting of 5 regional IFLA presidents, as well as two special guest jury on the panel. Besides that, IFLA Asia-Pacific region introduced the IFLA Asia-Pac LA Luminary Award 2017. It is IFLA Asia-Pacific’s inaugural and highest honour accorded to its regional luminaries who have inspired and made a significant contribution in protecting, championing, advocating, enhancing and/or sustaining the living environment and communities in their profession, region, countries or cities. The Federation received six nominations from three national associations, namely Korea, Singapore and Thailand, which have been recognised by International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) as the honorary IFLA Asia-Pac LA Luminary and successfully endorsed by Chief Evaluator, IFLA President Ms Kathryn Moore, five IFLA regional presidents from Americas, Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe and Middle East region and two international representatives from International Federation of Housing & Planning and World Green Building Council.
The IFLA Asia-Pac LA Luminary Award will be held in conjunction with the IFLA Asia-Pac LA Awards on 4 November 2017 at the IFLA Asia Pacific Congress 2017 at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park. Situated in the hyper-density of Bangkok, the 2017 IFLA APR congress will be the first landscape architectural event to focus on the potential for landscape architects within the Asia Pacific region to expand their role in determining the future of our cities and rural landscapes in the face of market-driven economic pressures, climate change, unprecedented urban population shifts, food security, and dwindling reserves for accessible public open spaces.
